IPM FOR PUBLIC HOUSING IN URBAN AREAS

Public housing residents are prone to pest problems and related housing conditions that can threaten human health. The Center recently received a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to launch IPM training for public housing authorities, working with experts at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Environmental Protection Agency, land grants, private consultants and others. Through this training, maintenance staff and residents will learn how they can successfully practice IPM to contribute positively to healthy homes.

REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS: VEGETABLE AND STRAWBERRY IPM EDUCATOR EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Would you like to learn more about integrated pest management for vegetables or strawberries, but can't afford to travel to a meeting? Do you have an interest in sharing what you know with others? The Northeast Vegetable IPM Working Group, funded by the Northeastern IPM Center, offers an Educator Exchange Program that will pay up to $800 for qualified expenses to help agricultural professionals in the Northeast learn about and share integrated pest management practices in vegetables and strawberries. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. For complete information about the very simple application process, download the Request for Applications at northeastipm.org/iwg/veg/2007/EduExchangeOct07.pdf.

A SHARED VISION FOR GROWERS AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The Northeastern IPM Center and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) have been training growers in practices that will minimize environmental impacts while improving crop yield and pest control. At the same time, IPM and NRCS professionals are learning about each other's work and how to reap benefits from the strengths of both USDA-funded groups. Read more.
