About the RIPM Grant Program

Background: The Regional IPM Competitive Grants Program was established in 1996. In 2003, the Northeastern IPM Center assumed administrative oversight of the Northeastern program (Center Co-Director John Ayers has been its grants manager since 1998). The core of the Request for Applications (RFA) was developed by the USDA National Program Leader for IPM, Dr. Michael Fitzner, in collaboration with the four regional IPM research and extension committees. Each year, the RFA is modified by each regional IPM Center to reflect program priorities, including regional IPM priorities, and the level of funding available. Annual revisions are drafted by Center staff and approved by USDA. The dual proposal review process consists of a relevance panel (Northeast stakeholders) and a technical review panel (IPM professionals from outside the region).

Purpose: This RIPM Grants Program supports projects that develop individual pest control tactics, integrate individual tactics into an IPM system, and develop and implement extension and education programs. The program favors projects that address priorities developed with stakeholder involvement; will clearly benefit the northeastern region; include a component of environmental stewardship; and show a high likelihood of success.

Eligibility: State agricultural experiment stations, land-grant colleges and universities (1862 and 1890), research foundations established by land-grant colleges and universities, colleges and universities receiving funds under the Act of October 10, 1962 (16 U.S.C. 582a et seq.), and accredited schools or colleges of veterinary medicine. Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply. Project directors must be based in the Northeast.

Application Submission

Letters of intent are submitted to Center Co-Director John Ayers at Penn State - see the RFA for instructions.

How to Submit Reports

Annual and final reports are submitted to USDA's Current Research Information System (CRIS).

Annual progress or final reports should also be submitted to the Northeastern IPM Center's grant database. Report requests with reporting instructions are sent to project directors by email, and the reports are submitted online. You can also download the 2010 RIPM Reporting Instructions.
